Project 365 is something of an internet fad. A good one, but still a fad. It works this way. You create something every day for 365 days. It has to be the same type of thing. For some people it's poetry, others it's a drawing or a short story. For me it's photography. I've slowly started to notice this thing picking up popularity around various creative websites. Flickr, Tumblr, DeviantArt, all had numerous people making small things on a daily basis.
So what I've set out to do is to take a picture every day. A different style of self portrait every day. The rules I have set for myself are as follows.
- Take a picture of yourself everyday.
- Post a picture everyday. (If I can't get to my computer, do it from my iPhone.)
- It's okay if a friend fires the shutter for me, or helps fine tune focus.
- A new picture every day. No series over a few days.
Here are my first three 365 shots. I'm really proud of theme.
Now, the question is why? Why would I want to take a picture of myself every day. I will promise you my motivation isn't because I think I look great on camera. (I don't.) It's really to fine tune my photography and to make myself more confidant and comfortable with myself.
I've seen many photographers do this project and become much more technically proficient and more conceptually skilled because of Project 365. If I were ever a photography teacher, I would make sure that each and every one of my students did this project. It would take the place of every assignment.
Here are some of the most inspirational 365s I've seen yet.
They are all amazing photographers with some really interesting ideas. I hope I can get to their point of creativity or talent with my project.
